Welcome to my Blog!

I am so happy to introduce my brand new blog!  I plan on posting at least once a week even if I don't have a sneak peek to share.  I want to make this blog more personal as well as professional.  I want you to get to know me as a person so you feel comfortable trusting me with your portraits!

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you will come back often to see what I am up to!

Blessings to all!

Laurie

Amy Wenzel, an inspiration…

I just found out that one of my favorite photographers, Amy Wenzel, is giving away a seat to one of her amazing workshops.  The   problem is in order to win this seat the entrants are suppose to write how they inspire other people and that got me thinking.  Do I inspire people?  If I don’t then I am not living the life I believe I am meant to live.  So I am happy that Amy has sent out this challenge because for me it’s going to make me figure out ways to inspire people and to make better this world we live in.

I have always been an eternal optimist.  I believe everything that happens is meant to happen and we are exactly where we need to be in life.  How can I be so sure?  I think it’s my faith in God that makes me believe.  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is leading me, calling me to do something, say something, BE SOMETHING, much bigger than maybe I am willing to admit right now.

This is a photography workshop and I know I haven’t even mentioned my photography career yet or my passion for it.  I love it and I so want to grow my talent and be better so I can do better for my family, friends, and clients.  But at the same time I want to become a better person, give more, be a better friend, a better daughter, a better mother, a better wife, an INSPIRATION to those I love.  I don’t know Amy Wenzel but I believe with all of my heart that she is this kind of person.

Last year she learned that her husband David, has brain cancer, and the journey that Amy and David have taken and are taking has been an inspiration to so many people around the world.  This is what I want to learn from Amy.  I absolutely want to learn her photography techniques and soak up her photoshop skills but most of all I want to learn from her heart.  If I could take what I learn from this amazing woman and inspire even 1 or 2 people the way she has inspired thousands I know I would be on the road that God has set out for me.  If I had to choose between being a photographer or being a positive inspirer, I would pick the latter.  Luckily, Amy is both, so I am hoping with God’s grace I can be too.

I know we are suppose to write an article about how we inspire others but I simply can’t sit here and write about myself in that way because in my mind I just haven’t done enough.  I haven’t given enough, I haven’t listened enough, I haven’t loved enough, and I haven’t inspired enough.  This life that our glorious God has given me is going to mean more, it’s going to be bigger, it’s going to be better than I ever dreamed possible because I have so much to offer and so much to give and the great news is, I have only just begun!

Do you want to be inspired?  I strongly urge you to read Amy’s husband David’s blog (click here) and start with his June 8, 2009 post. You will be better for reading his story. And you can read Amy’s journey too by (clicking here) and starting with her June 8, 2009 post. You will then see why I admire her so much and why learning photography lessons and life lessons from her would truly be a dream come true.

Ok, so I need to lose weight.  Those of you who know me, already know that but it’s good to say it out loud or in this case “type” it out loud!  Ha Ha  So I am announcing to the blog community that I have joined The Biggest Loser Pound for Pound Challenge.  The deal is I agree to lose up to a limit of 50 pounds and The Biggest Loser will give up to 50 pounds of food to a local food bank.  The food bank they will donate for my weight loss is in Flint.  So I have pledged to lose 50 pounds!  I hope to lose more but that is a good goal to start out with.

I like to share a little bit about me on my blog so you can feel comfortable with me as your photographer.  I am happy to say that most of my clients are now my friends too!  So wish me luck and hopefully the next time you come in for a session your photographer will be a little bit thinner!!!

Can’t post without adding a few pictures.  These two silly sweethearts are ALL MINE!!!!

I had SO much fun with Christian and Conrad yesterday.  I love talking to children and getting to know them and the oldest, Christian, is SO smart and so charming.  And his little brother Conrad must melt everyone’s heart as soon as they see him smile because he sure melted mine!!!

I don’t normally do an entire sneak peek of black and white pictures but these looked so beautiful in black and white I couldn’t help myself.

Ginger, thank you so much for letting me photograph your family and I hope you and Frederick enjoy your sneak peek!

GREAT NEWS!!!!

Those of you who know me well know that for the past 10 years my husband has worked the dreaded “swing shift” at Dow Corning.  With two small children, it hasn’t been easy.  My dream of him someday getting a STRAIGHT day job with weekends off has COME TRUE!!!  He starts his new job (still with Dow Corning) on November 23.

He did this basically for me.  I mean he hates shift work but it’s more money and things are tight so for him to take a pay cut to work straight days was in large part to make his wife happy.  I know, he is a good man!

So I want to do my part to take some of the load off of him and really try to get out there and promote my business in hopes of getting some more clients.

Soooo….  I have gone completely MAD and have come up with two promotions that are seriously, ridiculously good!!!

Promotion #1  Buy a gift card for $50 and your gift card amount will be $100.  Buy a gift card for $100 and your gift card amount will be $200.  You MAY buy these gift cards for yourself but only one gift card per family please.  You may buy as many as you want to give away as gifts.  Just think how AWESOME you will look giving a $100 gift card to someone but you know you really only paid $50!!!!  Offer ends December 31, 2009.  Gift cards will expire on December 31, 2010.

Promotion #2  This is  a BIG one.  Refer a new client to me that books and completes an appointment with me in January and that client will get 50% off of their total print purchase and SO WILL YOU!!!  Your client referral must book and complete their appointment in January but you get until March to complete your booking!!!!  Offer ends January 31, 2010.

SO PASS ON THESE GREAT DEALS!!!!  And guess what, you can do BOTH PROMOTIONS so just imagine the savings!!!!

I am going to be keeping mostly evening hours now that my husband will be working straight days but I will have a few days a month when I am available during the day and I will also be available two weekends out of every month as well.

I can’t pass up this opportunity to post a picture of my two little sweethearts in their Halloween costumes!!!!

One of my favorite families!

I have taken pictures for this WONDERFUL family since their oldest, Ben, was 8 weeks old.  I knew right from the start that Scott and Jill were the kind of people I would be friends with and I consider them friends now too!  Their gorgeous sons Ben and Nathan have always been easy going and their smiles have always brought a smile to my face!  And then came Miss Ella.  Oh my goodness she is a little princess and I can tell already that her brothers will be her protectors.  This wonderful family deserves wonderful photographs and I hope this sneak peek makes you all very happy!!!  Thanks so much again Jill and Scott for trusting me with these precious little faces!

Family Picture Fun!

On Sunday I was lucky enough to photograph my cousin’s beautiful daughter, Lane, and her two equally gorgeous cousins, Frankie and Bailey.  Sometimes getting 3 children of various ages to sit long enough to get a good shot can be difficult but these 3 did VERY well and I got some great shots!  Thank you Dave and Angela and Don and Kim for bringing your beautiful children to me to photograph.  I had a great time and I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

December 19, 2009 - 11:47 pm Jaleen - Oh my goodness. Gorgeous outfits, so coordinated. and their youngest girls eyes are AMAZING in that close up. wow Laurie, such talent you have!!!!!!!!

Amazing! Grace

Finally, some new pictures of Grace!  I never took her 2 year pictures because there was no way she would have sat or stood for even 2 seconds.  I have WAY more patience with other people’s kids then I do my own!  Ha Ha

Well, now she is ALL about looking “pretty” and being a PRINCESS.  So I figured I would have a shot and I was RIGHT!  I have been waiting for a nice Fall day but as most of you know this Fall has been rotten.  So we took Grace out this past Sunday.  It was a bit gloomy and we had to drive around a bit to find some nice spots but she did GREAT and I am thrilled with the results.

Grace is SO care free and happy.  She is a total outside girl and would love nothing more to be outside all day exploring!  She is such a great mix of a princess and tomboy!  Her smile lights up our world every single day!

Oh, and one more thing.  It’s quite appropriate that the daughter of an obsessed “Twilight” saga fan would have vampire fangs!!!  Ha Ha

Sharing a piece of myself…

Sometimes I struggle with the idea of sharing personal stuff about me on my blog.  But I want people to know who I am and what I stand for.  I want people to know the real me.  This is something I came across today and feel so passionate about it that I decided to post a link.  If  you have time please take a look at this amazing video clip.  I know not everyone shares my views but I hope those that do will get a renewed drive to fight for what we believe in.  Thank you!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

holiday

A deal SO good, you just can’t pass it up!  Here is what you get:

1/2 hour session.  5 images on a CD WITH the rights to print as many copies in as many sizes as you wish.  What does this mean?  You can take the professional pictures and use them to make your OWN holiday cards as well as cover your walls with prints and give out tons of pictures to family and friends.  You will own the rights to the images and can do ANYTHING you want with them.  Making a 2010 calendar would be a GREAT idea too!

I normally sell my 5 image digital package for $550 so this is an amazing deal because your session fee AND images are included for one low price.

Maybe you have 4 children so your five images could include 1 group shot and a shot of each individual child.  Maybe you have just 2 children so you could get 2 shots of each individual child and one duo shot.  Or if you have just 1 child you could have 5 different individual shots.  You can let me know at the session if you would like close up shots or full body shots or both.

If I end up with more then 5 great images you will be able to choose your favorite 5 and if you wish to add another image to your CD you can purchase additional image files for $50 each.

How Much? $200

WHEN?  Sunday, November 1st.

Times: 10:00 – 11:00 – 12:00 – 1:00 – 2:00 – 3:00 – 4:00 – 5:00

The backdrop will be white so all of your great holiday clothing will really pop.  There will be no cheesy props so you can hang these images all year long in your home.

To reserve your spot you must call or email me and let me know which time slot you would like to take and I must receive your check for $200 no later then October 1st.  If I do not receive your check by October 1st I will have to open up your slot for someone else to take it.

I recommend to all of my clients purchasing digital files to use www.mpix.com so please check them out and see all the great stuff you can do with your images for SUPER cheap prices!

Thank you so much and I hope to see you on November 1st!!!

-Laurie

PS  Everyone will receive their CD of images on November 15th giving you plenty of time to get your cards, prints, and calendars made for holiday gift giving!

I LOVE my job!

I know I have said this several times before but it has to be said again.  I LOVE my job!  When McKenna’s mom walked in with this gorgeous blonde haired, blue eyed beauty, I just knew it was going to be a GREAT session and I was right!

McKenna was a DREAM!  She didn’t know me but didn’t cry once and put up with me making funny noises and my crazy monkey sound!  I couldn’t believe it when her mom told me she had never had her hair cut because it was a perfect little hair style!

Enjoy your sneak peek Jess and thanks so much for letting me take McKenna’s pictures yesterday!

A boy, a girl, a family complete!

Well once again I had the honor to photograph a beautiful loving family and I am THRILLED with the results!  I like to try and think outside the box when it comes to photography.  I LOVE pictures of families interacting so the ones where no one is looking at the camera are ALWAYS my favorites.

Being a photographer I kind of feel like I do at Christmas.  I LOVE giving gifts and can NEVER wait to give them.  I feel the same way about the pictures I take.  I just cannot wait to show the families their pictures and hope they love them!

So here is a BIG sneak peek because I couldn’t help myself.  Look at these beautiful faces, can you blame me?

Gone too soon!

Today I am sad.  Today I am looking back on all of the memories in my life that included Michael Jackson.

When I was 11 years old I received the album “Thriller” for my birthday.  I could not believe my ears!  This was the BEST music I had ever heard and I wore my album out listening to it over and over again.  Over the next several years my love for this man, this unbelievable talented man, grew and grew and grew.  My walls were covered with posters of his face.  I loved every single thing about him; his beautiful voice, his outstanding writing ability, his dance technique that could NEVER be equalled, and his wonderful humanitarianism.

In recent years his name has been dragged through the mud by alligations that I NEVER believed.  They took the one thing he loved most and turned it against him.  He loved children and he was a big child himself not having a normal childhood.  He opened up Neverland Ranch for cancer stricken children and did so many selfless things in his life to help children.  So people thought that is how they could get his money and at the same time practically ruined his career.

Has he been eccentric and odd, absolutely.  There have been many times I have thought “what is he doing”?  But I would quickly remind myself of the life he has lived.  He didn’t have a choice as a child to be thrown into the music industry.  His life was NEVER his own and I think that contributed to his not so normal behavior in years past.

Today I am remembering all that he gave and contributed to our lives for so many years.  Today I am remembering how much happiness and joy he gave me for so many years.  He is the greatest entertainer of our time and today that is what I remember.  I hope by writing out this tribute that it is what some of you will remember too!

June 25, 2009 - 10:54 pm Kristina Notley - Beautiful tribute, Laurie! I couldn't have said it better myself. xoxo

July 2, 2009 - 6:27 pm Johanna - I am with you Laurie. What an amazing talent. Thanks for all the images too. They bring back wonderful memories as I was lucky enough to see not only Michael Jackson in concert several times, but my parents took me when I was a kid to see The Jackson Five as well! Their talent is to this day, unmatched.
